Abstract

Problems in the learning process are many students who are less active, silent, and play mobile phones. This study aims to improve student motivation and learning outcomes in the basic training courses in mechanical engineering design by applying the Jigsaw model. This research is a Classroom Action Research. This research was conducted in July-September 2018 in class tenth of Vocational High School No.5 Padang. The number of students is 33 people. This study consisted of 4 cycles. Data was collected using observation sheets and tests. Based on the results of the observation, the average learning motivation in cycle 1 was 52.9%, cycle 2 was 64.5%, cycle 3 was 76.2, and cycle 4 was 86.3. In addition to student learning motivation, learning outcomes also experience a classical increase. In cycle 1 the classical average value was 52.3%, cycle 2 obtained the classical average value of 65.8, cycle 3 obtained the classical average value of 76.1, and cycle 4 obtained the classical average value of 85.9. This means that the application of the Jigsaw learning model can improve students' motivation and learning outcomes in the basic of mechanical engineering design.
